4-Fluoro-N-phenyl-benzenesulfonamide is a cholinesterase inhibitor that binds to the active site of acetylcholinesterase, inhibiting the breakdown of acetylcholine. It can be used to treat Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. 4-Fluoro-N-phenyl-benzenesulfonamide has been shown to inhibit anhydrase activity as well as carbonyl reductase and carbonic anhydrase, which are enzymes involved in cancer cells. The drug has also been shown to inhibit butyrylcholinesterase, which is responsible for regulating cholinergic neurotransmission in the brain.
