1-Fluoro-4-[(E)-2-phenylvinyl]benzene is a molecule that can be used as a catalyst in the ring-opening polymerization of methyl methacrylate and styrene. It is also used to produce benzoyl peroxide, a strong oxidizing agent. 1-Fluoro-4-[(E)-2-phenylvinyl]benzene has been shown to catalyze the reaction between iodides and benzoate esters, which creates an isomeric mixture of products. The yield of this reaction decreases with increasing molecular weight of the benzoate ester. This compound has been shown to be effective in the copolymerization of styrene with methyl methacrylate.
