4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-2,6-diphenylpyridine is a pyridine compound that contains an ionic liquid. This compound has been shown to be catalytic for the conversion of ammonium and anion to hydrogen sulfate and chloride, respectively. It also exhibits magnetic properties when in contact with 1-methylimidazole or imidazolium ionic liquids. 4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-2,6-diphenylpyridine has also been shown to have a strong catalytic activity for the conversion of nitroarenes to nitrobenzenes by an oxidative process. The FT-IR spectrum of this compound shows the presence of C=O stretching bands at 1712 cm−1 and 1668 cm−1 and CO 2 bending bands at 1749 cm−1 and 1636 cm−1.
