5-(4-Fluorophenyl)-4H-1,2,4-Triazole-3-Thiol is a bioactive compound that can be synthesized by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of 4-fluorophenyl azide and propargylic alcohol. The bioassay results show that this compound has potent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. This compound binds to the thiol group of cysteine residues in the bacterial cell wall and causes alkylation of the sulfur atom. This reaction destroys the integrity of the bacterial cell wall, leading to death by osmotic lysis. 5-(4-Fluorophenyl)-4H-1,2,4-Triazole-3-Thiol also has a high affinity for metal ions such as copper (II), zinc (II), nickel (II), or cobalt (III).
