1-Fluoro-2-hydroxybutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid is a biochemical that is activated by protonation in the presence of dinitrogenase. It is biosynthesized from two molecules of 2-oxoglutarate in a four step process. 1-Fluoro-2-hydroxybutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid has shown to have specificities for biological nitrogen and nucleic acids. The biological function of this compound has not been determined yet. 1-Fluoro-2-hydroxybutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid was synthesized in vitro and its hydroxyl group serves as a substrate to generate electrons in ferredoxin. The diastereomer form of this compound may play a role in the phenotype of certain organisms.br>
