5-((2-Fluorophenyl)methyl)-3,3-dimethyl-2-pyrrolidinone is a medicinal product that belongs to the pyrrolidinones. It is used as a preparation for the treatment of nervous system disorders. Hydroxylation of 5-(2-fluorophenyl)methyl-3,3-dimethyl-2-pyrrolidinone, which can be effected by ethanol or sodium methoxide in an alcoholic solvent, leads to a compound with a hydroxyl group at position 2 and a trifluoromethyl group at position 3. The hydrogen atom at position 2 can be substituted by methoxy group. This modification leads to an increase in lipophilicity, which may have an effect on its absorption and distribution.
