5-Fluoro-2,4-Dioxo-N-(5-Oxohexyl)Pyrimidine-1-Carboxamide is a bioassay monitoring agent. It is converted in vivo to 5,5'-difluorodeoxyuridine by enzymatic catalysis. 5,5'-Difluorodeoxyuridine is then converted to 5-fluoro-2',4'-dihydroxypyrimidine by the action of an unidentified microbial enzyme. This metabolite inhibits the growth of certain tumours in mice and rats and has antitumour activity. 5,5'-Difluorodeoxyuridine also has antibacterial properties against Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
