1-(3,5-Dichlorophenyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroethanone is a chlorinating agent that is used in various industrial processes including the chlorination of ethylene to produce vinyl chloride and the conversion of phenols to phenolates. This chemical can be used as a catalyst for other reactions such as fluorination and deamination. 1-(3,5-Dichlorophenyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroethanone has been found to have high yield in chlorinating a variety of substrates. It is also used in large-scale production of fluoro compounds including dichlorofluoromethane and trichlorofluoromethane.
