Glycerol-5-hydroxy-dodecanoate (G5HD) is a heat resistant synthetic glycol that has been used extensively as a solvent and plasticizer in the manufacture of coatings, resins, lubricants, and plastics. G5HD also has been used to dissolve terephthalic acid for the production of polyesters. This product is resistant to ethylene and can be used as a replacement for diglycidyl ether. It also can be used in the synthesis of fluoropolymers such as fluoroethylene propylene. G5HD has functional properties such as water repellency and low volatility, which makes it an excellent choice for use in paints and coatings.
