The N1-GS molecule is composed of a glutathione (GSH) scaffold with two sulfhydryl groups and an amino acid side chain. N1-GS has a hydrophobic nature, which allows it to penetrate the cellular membrane and enter cells. It is also able to form hydrogen bonds and act as a catalyst for reactions. Fluorescence analysis revealed that this molecule is selective for disulfides over thiols, amines, or alcohols.
