Descripción:Germanium is a non-metallic element that has four oxidation states. Germanium(IV)isopropoxide is the most stable of these forms, and is a reactive, thermally unstable compound with transport properties. It has been used in analytical chemistry as a reagent for determining the content of zirconium oxide in materials such as refractory bricks. Germanium(IV)isopropoxide has also been investigated for its biochemical properties, which are related to its ability to bind organic molecules and form complexes with some proteins. The compound is chemically stable in neutral pH environments, but hydrochloric acid can readily cause its decomposition. The compound exhibits optical absorption bands at wavelengths of 250 nm and 270 nm, making it useful in uv spectroscopy.
