Glucose Dehydrogenase is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of glucose to d-xylose. It is a periplasmic enzyme and has been shown to be expressed by a variety of gram-negative bacteria. Glucose Dehydrogenase is also an endogenous enzyme, which means it is produced by the organism itself, and has been found in both the cytoplasm and periplasmic space. This enzyme has been studied for its use in nanomaterials as a carbon source and may have toxic effects on cells if used at high concentrations or for long periods of time.
