Glyoxalbis(2-hydroxyanil) is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect ethylene diamine in the presence of glyoxal. It has been shown to react with ameloblasts and fetal bovine liver cells. This probe also reacts with anhydrous sodium, hydrochloric acid, and neutral pH. Glyoxalbis(2-hydroxyanil) is soluble in water at high concentrations and insoluble at lower concentrations. The fluorescence intensity of this compound increases with the addition of ethylene diamine and glyoxal, which are the two compounds that are detected by this probe. Studies have shown that glyoxalbis(2-hydroxyanil) reacts with liver lesions and may be a potential marker for liver cancer.
