Descripción

Glyphosate is a herbicide that inhibits the enzyme 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS), which is necessary for the synthesis of aromatic amino acids in plants. Glyphosate has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity, high resistance, and stable complexes with redox cycle. It has also been demonstrated to be genotoxic in humans and animals. The monosodium salt of glyphosate is more toxic than its acid form and it has been shown to cause hepatic impairment in rats. Glyphosate can inhibit plant metabolism by inhibiting phosphoenol pyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and by promoting the accumulation of glyoxylic acid.
