Geranyl chloride is a compound that is used as an oxidation catalyst in the pharmaceutical industry. It has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases, including HIV and herpes simplex virus. Geranyl chloride is synthesized from ethylene diamine and hydrogen chloride using a catalytic amount of hydrochloric acid. The reaction products are then purified by distillation before use in cell culture.
