Garcinaxanthone E is a flavonoid that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of HL-60 cells in vivo and in vitro. Garcinaxanthone E also induces apoptotic cell death, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activation of geranyl pyrophosphate synthase, thereby inhibiting the production of prenyl pyrophosphate.
