(R)-Glycidyl Methyl Ether is a functional group that is used in organic synthesis. It is synthesized by reacting methacrolein with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst. The reaction requires a large amount of energy and produces a mixture of (R)-glycidyl methyl ether and (S)-glycidyl methyl ether. It has been shown that vibrations are more prominent in the infrared spectrum for this functional group than the Raman spectrum. Vibrational theory has also been used to simulate profiles for this compound, which can be useful for highlighting its chemical properties. Furthermore, simulations have been used to study how the different isomers may interact with each other synergistically, which can lead to new synthetic methods being implemented. This functional group can also be separated into two structural isomers: (R)-glycidyl methyl ether and (S)-glycidyl methyl ether.
