This compound is prepared in high yields by the reaction of cyclohexanone with bromine and ethyl nitrite. 2-Bromo-1-cycloheptylethan-1-one has been used as a bronchodilator for chronic bronchitis and asthma, as well as for nitrobenzene reduction to aniline. This compound also has been shown to be an effective bronchial smooth muscle relaxant, with the potential for use in bronchial asthma. The structural formula can be seen below:
