N-(Hydroxymethyl)trifluoroacetamide is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and pesticides. It is a white crystalline solid with a molecular weight of 142.2 g/mol, soluble in ethanol (1 g/100 mL), and insoluble in water. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth. This drug is used to inhibit the activity of bacteria by binding to their ribosomes, which prevents protein synthesis and cell division. N-(Hydroxymethyl)trifluoroacetamide also inhibits the formation of amides from amino acids, an important step in the production of proteins. In addition, it has been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory properties due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
