2-Hydroxysuccinic acid is a nitrated 2-hydroxycarboxylic acid that belongs to the group of cyclic compounds. It is the product of electron, comproportionation, and bonding reactions. The nitration reaction was carried out by adding concentrated nitric acid to the compound at room temperature. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments were performed on tetrakis(2-hydroxysuccinato)iron(II) and tetrakis(2-hydroxysuccinato)copper(II) in acetonitrile with a glassy carbon electrode in the presence of 1 M potassium acetate. The compounds were found to have two substructures: one with an ester group and one with an amide group. The constants for these substructures are shown below:
