4-Hydrazino-7-nitrobenzofurazane is an agent that binds to the fatty acid and carbohydrate moieties of lipids and proteins. It has been shown to bind specifically to the bacterial cell wall, which may be due to its ability to bind with a high affinity and specificity to the protein genes of bacteria. The reaction products are converted into a fluorescent product by reaction with trifluoroacetic acid, which can be detected using fluorescence probe. 4-Hydrazino-7-nitrobenzofurazane is used in cancer research as a marker for plasma glucose levels.
