3-(Hydroxymethyl)-8a-methyl-2-phenylhexahydro-5H-[1,3]oxazolo[3,2-a]pyridin-5-one is a chiral amino alcohol that can be prepared by the condensation of an α,β-unsaturated acid with an amino alcohol. It has been used as a template in the synthesis of lactams and bicyclic compounds. The stereochemical configuration can be controlled by using enantiopure starting materials and different methods of preparation.
