2'-Hydroxyformononetin is a phytoalexin that has been shown to inhibit the activity of certain enzymes involved in the synthesis of cinnamic acid derivatives. It has been found to be effective against HCT116 cells, with an inhibitory effect on cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis. This compound has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. 2'-Hydroxyformononetin is synthesized from formononetin by oxidative cleavage and hydroxylation.
