4-Hydroxy-6-methylnicotinic acid is a lanthanide compound with a molecular weight of 233.4 g/mol. It is an organic solvent that has been found to be effective in treating cancer. The mechanism of action is not yet known, but it may inhibit the production of nitrate and nitrite by microorganisms. 4-Hydroxy-6-methylnicotinic acid also has antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus. The low molecular weight makes this compound suitable for use in inorganic acid solutions, which can be used to produce a variety of nitrates and nitrites.
