This product has been used to study the transport properties of fatty acids as well as their interaction with phosphotungstic acid, which is an important stain for biological tissue. FT-IR spectroscopy was used to identify the protonation mechanism of 3-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylpropanoic acid in the presence of sodium hydroxide solution and sodium carbonate. The activation energies for this process were determined to be 29.4 and 27.6 kcal/mol respectively.
