4-Hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridine is a coordination complex that has potent antibacterial activity. It is synthesized from the reaction of 1,5-naphthyridinium chloride with an alkylating agent. 4-Hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridine has been shown to inhibit mycobacterial growth and to be structurally similar to other compounds that have been shown to have antimycobacterial activity. The crystal structure of 4-hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridine was determined using XRD and showed that it adopts a tautomeric form. This compound binds to the bacterial cell wall and inhibits the synthesis of proteins vital for cell division.
