3-Hydroxyquinoline-4-carboxylicacid (3HQ) is a chemical compound that is used as an optical marker. It has a strong absorption band in the ultraviolet region and it can be detected by laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy at wavelengths of about 300 nm. 3HQ has been shown to be resistant to sodium hydrogen sulfide, trichlorobenzene, and dimethylformamide. Optical properties of 3HQ are strain and bandwidth dependent. The detection time for 3HQ is about 30 min.
