(R)-2-(Hydroxymethyl)-1,4-benzodioxane is a heterocyclic compound that is composed of a benzene ring and two hydroxyl groups. The hydroxyl groups are able to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules in the area. It has a helical conformation and can exist as two different conformations, depending on the substituents at either end of the chain. Substituents can also influence the conformation of (R)-2-(Hydroxymethyl)-1,4-benzodioxane by changing the number of hydrogen bonds it can form. (R)-2-(Hydroxymethyl)-1,4-benzodioxane chains are relatively short and equatorially oriented in crystals.
