(2S,5R)-trans-5-Hydroxypiperidine-2-carboxylic acid is a natural product that can be found in fruits. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and has been used in the synthesis of other chiral compounds. (2S,5R)-trans-5-Hydroxypiperidine-2-carboxylic acid is an epoxidation product of trans-(+)-linalool oxide. The (+) enantiomer of this compound is known to have more potent anti-inflammatory properties than the (-) enantiomer. This compound can be synthesized using a cyclic reaction sequence involving dactylifera and ion exchange chromatography. The optical rotation of (2S,5R)-trans-5-Hydroxypiperidine-2-carboxylic acid is +7° (c=1 in chloroform).
