5-Hydroxydequelin is a natural product that is isolated from the fungus Dryophila sp. 5-Hydroxydequelin inhibits lipid synthesis and induces apoptosis in breast cancer cells through inhibition of fatty acid synthase. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to inhibition of the production of reactive oxygen species. 5-Hydroxydequelin has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human leukemia cells, as well as an inhibitory effect on autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
