3-Hydrazinobenzoic acid HCl is a reducing agent that can be used to reduce sulfites. 3-Hydrazinobenzoic acid HCl is synthesized by the reaction of hydrochloric acid and hydrazine hydrochloride with sodium metabisulfite and diazonium chloride in the presence of benzene. This agent reacts with sulfites and reduces them to sulfides, which are non-toxic. 3-Hydrazinobenzoic acid HCl can also be used to reduce carbonyl groups in organic compounds such as sugars or amines, or to convert nitrobenzene into aniline.
