Descripción:
4-Hepten-2-one is a viscous liquid that has been shown to be an insect pheromone. It is a major component of the cuticular hydrocarbon mixture from the sternum of male Lepidoptera and has been shown to be a sex attractant for females. 4-Hepten-2-one is also found in the urine of animals and has been shown to have antifungal activity. The chemical structure of 4-hepten-2-one consists of four nonconjugated olefinic bonds, which gives it a high boiling point and viscosity. The presence of two peroxide groups leads to its reactive nature, as well as its unpleasant odour.
