It has been shown to inhibit the expansion of fat droplets in hamsters and mice with hyperlipidemia. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. (Z)-N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)docos-13-enamide is an amide with a viscosity similar to water. It is soluble in water and alcohols but insoluble in acetone, ether, and chloroform. The solubility of this drug depends on the temperature; it is more soluble at higher temperatures. The addition of methacrylates such as methyl methacrylate or ethyl methacrylate increases solubility and reduces viscosity at higher temperatures.
