- 3-Nitro-2-hydroxybenzonitrile
2-Hydroxy-3-nitrobenzonitrile is a benzyl xanthine oxidase inhibitor that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of xanthine oxidase. It inhibits the production of uric acid and the accumulation of xanthine in the body, which can lead to the development of gout. 2-Hydroxy-3-nitrobenzonitrile also has inhibitory effects on other enzymes such as allopurinol and febuxostat, which are used as treatments for hyperuricemia and gout. The inhibition of these enzymes by 2-hydroxy-3-nitrobenzonitrile may lead to decreased levels of uric acid in the blood. This compound also showed promising results in molecular modeling studies.
