Hexamethylenetetramine is a chemical compound that may be used as an antimicrobial agent. Hexamethylenetetramine has been shown to have a variety of physiological effects, including a possible role in the diagnosis of nuclear DNA and clinical pathology. Hexamethylenetetramine is also used for wastewater treatment, which may be due to its ability to bind with silver ions. This chemical compound can interfere with drug interactions by inhibiting the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes. Hexamethylenetetramine is not toxicologically studied in humans, but animal studies have shown that it has no mutagenic or carcinogenic properties.
