Testosterone caproate is a long-acting form of the androgen testosterone. It is given by intramuscular, intravenous, or subcutaneous injection. The chemical name for this drug is 17β-hydroxyandrost-4-en-3-one caproate. Testosterone can be administered as an injection solution that contains sodium carbonate and polymeric matrix. The drug has been shown to be effective in animals with symptoms of testosterone deficiency, such as decreased libido and erectile dysfunction. Testosterone caproate has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
