18-Hydroxy corticosterone-d8 is a corticosteroid hormone, which is used for the diagnosis of deficiency type adrenal cortex. 18-Hydroxy corticosterone-d8 can be used to analyze the metabolism of aldosterone and cortisol in patients with hypertension or metabolic disorders. The lack of this hormone can also be used as a marker for adrenocortical carcinoma. 18-Hydroxy corticosterone-d8 has been shown to have glucocorticoid activity that is similar to cortisol but less potent than hydrocortisone. This steroid hormone binds to the glucocorticoid receptor, which regulates the expression of genes involved in energy metabolism and inflammation.
