Hexachlorodibenzodioxin is a chlorinated organic compound that belongs to the group of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs). Hexachlorodibenzodioxin is used as an analytical reference compound. It is also used as a chemical intermediate and has been shown to have activity against infectious diseases. Hexachlorodibenzodioxin has been found in human serum, maternal blood, and fatty tissue following chronic exposure. The toxicological effects of hexachlorodibenzodioxin include liver lesions and changes in body mass index.
