Descripción:Methiodide is a photolytic reagent that can be used in the synthesis of cholesterol derivatives. Methiodide is inexpensive and can be easily synthesized from inexpensive starting materials. It has been successfully used for the synthesis of 19-hydroxy cholesteryl 3-acetate, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. The synthesis of this compound is achieved by photolysis of methiodide and 19-hydoxycholesterol in chloroform.
