Hydroxy saxagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and has been shown to be effective in both clinical studies and in pharmacokinetic studies. Hydroxy saxagliptin is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 3 hours. The plasma concentration-time curve can be determined by measuring the concentration over time after oral administration. Clinical studies have shown that hydroxy saxagliptin does not affect renal function or lead to adverse effects on heart rate or blood pressure, even with prolonged use. Hydroxy saxagliptin has also been shown to be effective in treating hepatic impairment and cyp3a4 inducers are not expected to affect its pharmacokinetics.
