8-Hydroxy-2-methyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone is a fluorescent dye that is used in the laboratory to diagnose autoimmune diseases. It can be injected into mice, which will then show fluorescence when they are given a drug that causes an autoimmune response. This dye binds to adenine diphosphate ribose in sequences of RNA and DNA, which makes it useful for determining the sequence of nucleic acid chains. The binding affinity of 8-hydroxy-2-methyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone for 3-aminobenzamide has been shown to be stronger than its binding affinity for bladder tissue, making it more suitable for bladder imaging. 8-hydroxy-2-methyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone is also being investigated as a possible treatment for cancer and other diseases such as infectious diseases.
