In addition, it has been shown to be an analytical method for determining the amount of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in human brain tissue. The supercritical extraction technique has been used to extract 3-hydroxy-5-phenylpyrrole from plant materials. The 3HPP may also be obtained by reacting fatty acids with isovaleric acid in the presence of a catalyst, or by extracting it from bitter herbs such as gentian or wormwood.
