• Descripción: 5-(Hydroxymethyl)furfuryl alcohol has been used as a feedstock along with diacid ethyl esters for an enzymatic process to synthesise furan polyesters. 5-(Hydroxymethyl)furfuryl can be hydrogenated to afford 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)-tetrahydrofuran which is used in the manufacture of polyurethane foams and polyesters. 5-(Hydroxymethyl)furfuryl alcohol has also been used in wood treatments.
