It targets cyclin d2 and iron homeostasis, which are necessary for cell cycle progression. The synergistic effect of this drug with other chemotherapeutic agents has been shown in vitro using human squamous cell carcinoma cells. N,N'-Hexamethylenebisacetamide has also shown antibacterial efficacy against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis, but not the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This drug has low acute toxicities and can be administered intravenously or orally.
