8-Hydroxyquinaldine is a coordination complex that contains the quinoline ring system with an intramolecular hydrogen. This compound has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties in humans and animals. It also has been shown to have anti-malarial activity in vitro. 8-Hydroxyquinaldine is used for the treatment of malaria and fever, and it inhibits the growth of bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Moraxella catarrhalis. The derivative of 8-hydroxyquinoline, 2-deoxy-8-hydroxyquinoline, has been shown to be effective against various cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma.
