Hexafluoro-2-(p-tolyl)isopropanol is a hydrophobic monomer that is added to dental materials, such as methacrylates and polymers, for the purpose of improving their resistance to water. It has been found to be effective in photopolymerization experiments due to its lack of susceptibility to photodegradation by ultraviolet light. Hexafluoro-2-(p-tolyl)isopropanol also has an optimal long-term effect on the environment, as it does not react with ozone or water vapor and is not toxic to aquatic life.
