• Descripción: Hematoxylin hydrate is a histological stain, which is derived from the heartwood of the logwood tree, Haematoxylum campechianum. This compound undergoes oxidation to become hematein, which then forms a complex with metal ions, commonly aluminum, yielding a dye capable of binding to nucleic acids. The mode of action involves the selective binding to the negatively charged phosphate groups of nucleic acids, primarily in the cell nuclei, resulting in a blue to purple coloration.
