Descripción:3-Hydroxy-4-methylpentanoic acid is a precursor of the antibiotic erythromycin. It is an analog of isocaproic acid, which is a substrate for the biosynthesis of 3-hydroxy-4-methylpentanoic acid. This compound is produced by Chromobacterium violaceum, and has been shown to be synthesized from 3-hydoxyisovalerate and 4-methylvalerate in wild type strains. The biosynthetic pathway of 3-hydroxy-4-methylpentanoic acid can be determined by gene analysis, which reveals that it is synthesized through the activity of two enzymes, cyclic lipopeptide synthase and cyclic lipopeptide lyase. The mutant strain was generated using whole genome sequencing and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
