2-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzenecarbohydrazide (2HMB) is a tyrosinase inhibitor that has been shown to have antibacterial properties. 2HMB inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase and prevents the production of melanin, which is necessary for the development of skin pigmentation. 2HMB has also been shown to interact with hydrogen peroxide, a reactive oxygen species that can cause oxidative damage to cells. This compound may be involved in the metabolism of hydrogen peroxide via an electrospray ionization mass spectrometry technique.
