Descripción:Hexamethylbenzene is a hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine that can be used as an activator in the hydrogenation of nitriles. Hexamethylbenzene is soluble in organic solvents and has a melting point of 35°C. Hexamethylbenzene has been shown to react with copper chloride in a redox reaction to form copper hexamethylbenzenesulfonate. This reaction also produces hydrogen fluoride and copper chloride as byproducts. Hexamethylbenzene can also be used as a solid catalyst for the synthesis of organometallic compounds. The diphenyl sulfoxide (DPS) isomerizes on exposure to air or light, forming DPSO and diphenyl sulfone (DPSO). Diphcnyl sulfoxide reacts with hexamethylbenzene to form stable complexes.
